Building a Foundation of Palestinian Wellness

Research, healing, and community rooted in Palestinian hands.

The Palestinian Wellness Institute is a home for those who move between worlds:  between the medicine of their ancestors and the demands of modern practice, between diaspora and homeland, between what was carried and what is being built. We are a research and academic stewardship hub dedicated to anchoring the next generation of Palestinian healers and innovators. We believe that healing is a profound return to our collective wholeness and agency. By blending principled research, ancestral knowledge, somatic wisdom, and the deep rituals of our lineage, we are building a foundation for care that belongs to us. This is where high-level scientific rigour meets the undeniable wisdom of the Palestinian experience. We are committed to creating the conditions in which our people can finally settle into their own strengths.

The Narrative

For too long, the Palestinian experience has been studied from the outside, reducing our people to subjects rather than authors of their own story. Palestinian narratives deserve not to be a footnote in global health literature, but a living, growing body of knowledge shaped by the communities who carry it. Our survival is not an academic exercise. It is a physical reality that lives in our bodies, woven into our nervous systems, our breath, and our ancestral memory. We carry a collective imprint that requires more than generic, one-size-fits-all models of care. The problem is that the frameworks for healing have rarely been ours, meaning they weren't built with our specific lineage or our unique needs in mind, nor are they equipped to adequately account for systemic structures that fragment and dehumanize us. We are changing that by bridging the research and the ritual so we can become the keepers of our own wholeness.

What We Anchor

We acknowledge that psychological distress does not arise in a vacuum, but within conditions shaped by occupation, structural violence, and inherited systems of inequality. Healing becomes possible only when we address these forces directly and work toward the social and political transformations essential for restoring dignity and coherence.

Holistic healing, as we understand it, is more than a clinical framework. It is a return to the full breadth of what our people have always carried. The medicine of story and poetry. The embodied knowledge of tatreez and dabke. The nourishment of our land and food traditions. The wisdom passed through our elders.

Emerging modalities, including expanded states of consciousness and psychedelic informed care, are approached with rigor and cultural humility. They are explored on our own terms and welcomed only where they serve this foundation, never as replacements for it.

What We Support

  • Scholars and clinicians seeking mentorship, training, and supervision in expanded states of consciousness and holistic healing, including psychedelic-informed care.

  • Research projects and clinical trials that center on and prioritize the Palestinian narrative.

  • Training programs and initiatives developing the next generation of Palestinian health leaders.

  • Community-grounded projects that bridge ancestral wisdom, land, and modern science.

Core Values

Honoring the Lineage

We do not look at our collective wound in a vacuum; we look at the patterns of our ancestors and the wisdom they passed down to us. We weave our heritage into every framework we build. This includes a deep commitment to mentorship and the guardians of knowledge: our elders, our scholars, and those who carry the thread forward. We build in the spirit of sumud (صمود), a steadfastness that stretches across generations, honoring the ancestors who carried us here and the descendants we will never meet. We honor the truth that healing is not merely personal restoration but a continuation of the collective struggle for life, dignity, and liberation

Sovereignty

Healing cannot be imported, prescribed, or imposed.

It must be led by the people who carry the story and who live the consequences of oppression. This work is Palestinian-led and community-accountable. We are reclaiming our right to define what wellness looks like on our own terms, with awareness frameworks shaped by systems of oppression and structures of violence.

The Ethics of Care

We approach emerging modalities and integrative practices with scientific humility and deep grace.  Our commitment is to safeguard and advance the wellbeing of our people with integrity and transparency, refusing to replicate the very systems that harm us.

Care, for us, is not a soft ideal, but a form of resistance, with a refusal to abandon one another, a refusal to normalize injustice, and a refusal to compromise the dignity of our community.

Inclusivity

We are rooted in the land and in relationship with our community, our ancestors, and all those who share the struggle for dignity and belonging. We carry within us the  belief that our wellbeing is bound to the wellbeing of one another and to the transformation of the conditions that shape our lives.

Turmoil into Service

We believe that pain, when held with intention, becomes the seed of healing. We transform collective experience, however difficult, into a force for harmony, wholeness, and the wellbeing of our people.

Where We Are

We are currently in the early stages of our founding. This is the moment where we are formalizing our structure, our governance, and our initial program offerings. We are actively seeking input from trusted advisors and prospective team members who see the long arc of this work and want to help us lay the first bricks of this foundation. We welcome conversation about advisory roles, research partnerships, and community collaboration.
